A skeleton of the horse ancestor that lived 6 million years ago found in Crimea

The Crimean archeologists found the remains of a horse that lived more than six million years ago in the clay soil of a beach. The scientists said the animal bones were at a depth of 4 meters and very well preserved. This is the first such discovery in Crimea.

In the Saksky district of the Crimea, the remains of a fossil animal - hipparion, tridactyl horse were found, age - 6-7 million years. The finding was unexpected. A resident of the village of Frunze came to the Central Museum of Taurida and reported finding of the bones in the coastal cliffs near the sea. On the spot at the depth of more than 4 m, the Museum staff found the fossilized skeletal remains of the fossil animal.

After extraction from the soil, the specimen was sent to the Museum for further study. According to preliminary data, the researchers found the remains of a hipparion, tridactyl horse. There are no so well-preserved skeletons of the fossil animal in the museums of Crimea.
